Awake in the Garden
AWAKE IN THE GARDEN
Betty Jean Skufca 1996

Adam and Eve in the garden of love
Asleep by the water, warmed from above
Not knowing the difference between now and then
Til a slither of gemstones glides thru the glen.

The snake is excited, it senses the fruit
"Let's eat the apples" it whispers, though mute
We'll have a party and play pretend games
I'll give you knowledge and you will have names.

So Adam and Eve then travel the years
Counting their footsteps and seeing with mirrors
The snake is so dreaded that no one has fun
After much suffering they wake up as one.

They live in the garden of only what's true
The snake isn't sorry --- It learned something too.

(Chorus)
Awake in the garden
Knowing at last
All is a dream then
The snake and the past.
